Bio:

Barbwyre creates finely crafted original pieces, with a choice covers tossed in from time to time. They are musicians as much as songwriters and tend to let interesting melodies dictate where the song goes, verses adhering to any traditional style. Barbwyre was founded by Jon Mitguard and Dana Rath. These two develop combinations of two part harmonies, mandolin, mandola, pedal steel, dobro, acoustic guitar, and harmonica for a blend of musical styles. They draw from a diverse range of musical experience form country western to rock and roll, and bluegrass to classical. But, what isn’t all mixed up these days? Barbwyre blends these musical genres in a compelling musical hybrid they call, Alt country funk grass

Dana Rath has spent a large part of his musical career touring and recording classical music as a founding member of the ” Modern Mandolin Quartet”. This has lead to performances with musician like Mike Marshall, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile, Sam Bush, and David Grissman. New Acoustic, Jazz and Country have all rubbed off on him and finds expression in Barbwyre. He has a real knack for telling stories in his songs that conjure images that will take you out on the plains of Colorado or maybe draw parallels between a dilapidated house and a crumbling relationship.

Jon Mitguard, is a disciple of the steel guitar and dobro. Something about the liquid sounds one can make with a steel guitar just links up with the listener’s soul. Mitguard has been compelled to write songs since he started playing. It is a way to play all the music you love by writing it into your own material. His writing explores human relations in a straight forward fashion to rather esoteric ruminations sown from a tales of two feelings. Along the way he has continued to hone his vocal, guitar, harmonica skills as well. He has performed professionally in studios and on stage since well, a long time.

Rob Wenig, the newest barb brings along some great chops and really opens up some territory for Barbwyre with the awesome range of his six string basses. His background in fusion and jamanology bring yet another piece of the Americana pie to this music. .. .. .. .. ..
