Blue Moon's Blog

  • New blog post, new webpage

So I'm still blogging from time to time but not here.  You're gonna have to visit our new page to see what we've been up to.  Here's the latest cranky story: a behind-the-scenes look at a show that took six months to put together and the disastrous aftermath of my poor business decision.  Enjoy!

  • New Blue Moon Webpage

Sorry, MySpace, but you've gotten bloated and useless.  The final straw came 10 minutes ago when I tried to update today's calendar and it kept cutting most of it off but luckily I've been working on a new page for the past few days.  Amazing that they could screw up the one thing they had going for them: being musician friendly.  Between that and the third-party spam apps that play hell with my anti-virus software, I'm moving on.  So here we go:

    http://bluemoonseattle.wordpress.com/

You can still e-mail me here about shows but I strongly recommend just using our gmail account now: bluemoonseattle@gmail.com.

I'll also still post the occasional announcement here, but this is no longer our go-to site. Use the above link for all of your Blue Moon related needs.

I would appreciate any feedback on the new page, especially from WordPress users. I like the theme I chose but wondering if there's a more convenient one.

  • Blue Moon Open Mic Returns This Wednesday!

Hey, kids!  Do you like open mic night?  Well, regardless of how you answered, it's back.  After a brief hiatus, we're bringing back that olde tyme tradition of handing the stage over to you, for better or for worse.

New host Linda Lee is a veteran of the Seattle open mic scene.  She's been doing this for a good 20+ years.  I haven't even been shaving that long.  Not continuously anyways.  But that aside, she'll be bringing both the goods and the gear.  Yes, this means we'll have some drums here.  But you don't have to be a musician to join in -- comedians, poets, magicians, and CPR demonstrations are fair game as well.

Signup is at 7.  Show starts at 8.  As usual, Johnny Baker will be holding down the taps and serving up the drinks.

But please.  Enough with the "All Along The Watchtower."  It's just not that good a song.

    Also, don't do this:

  • Two Turntables and a... uh, Mixer

That's right, kids.  We're very 21st century now.  First wi-fi, now hi-fi.  Wheels of steel, the ones and twos, decks... yeah, if you call turntables those things, we're gonna laugh at you.  But never the less, we've got them now.  We've been tasting them out for the past couple of weeks and have it all dialed into the soundsystem.  That warm vinyl sound combined with our sturdy soundsystem and a couple of gin and tonics make for a great time.  Or we could all quite our jobs and work weddings.  But I don't have a record of Kool & The Gang's "Celebration."

Do you?  Better yet, do you have a stack of wax and a desire to share?  The thrill of forcing your music down everyone's throat is a power matched only by lightning and dictatorship, neither of which you're likely to be on the right end of.  But a chance to DJ at the Blue Moon... that you might have a shot at.

In other words, we're looking for a stable stable of turntable-abled people to take advantage of this newfound position of power.  Think you have what it takes?  Drop us a line at bluemoonseattle@gmail.com and state your case.  Just as long as you're not this guy.
