Bio
Davina Liz is a french-american artist whose musical journey started in Paris, France, as a roots reggae "selector" in parisians sound systems. As her passion for music grew, she slowly got interested in recording techniques and happened to meet artists from all backgrounds. She never thought of singing until an artist once asked her to record her voice just for a demo - surprised by the result, he strongly encouraged her to persevere in music. Supported by positive opinions concerning her art, Davina Liz developed her recording techniques and music production. She tried herself on an approachable music for the non musician that she is: electronic music, and collaborated with artists from different backgrounds; but she quickly became unsatisfied with her electronic / pop sound. In 2007, she decided to follow singing lessons, which she did for 3 years. From "soprano" she became a "contralto", and started to feel more comfortable with her voice. She also decided to come back to her roots, her first love in music: the blues, roots reggae, groove music. Her lyrics, which used to be poetical and intimist, slowly became externalized, with social connotations which are dear to her, probably coming from her original love for roots reggae, blues and gospel music. In 2006, she met the musician Tim Sanders, from Virginia, USA, on an indie website. At that time, they created their first collaboration on a song called "Creation", Davina Liz’s recording her lyrics and vocals on Tim’s music. In the same year, she stopped attending indie websites, until the end of 2010, when she met Tim Sanders again. They quickly decided to collaborate. That's how in a month, they came up with "Tell Me What For" (a blues mixed by Davina Liz) and "Gimme The Real Thing" (a rock song mixed by Tim Sanders). Their last collaboration is “Where Is Your Love”, music and mix by tim Sanders, lyrics and vocals by Davina Liz -

Review "Gimme The Real Thing"
Davina Liz,a French-American artist whose specialties lie in electronic, reggae, blues, gospel and rock music, offers her single “Gimme The Real Thing,” a study in diverse creative talent. While it is mainly a rock song, there are hints of various others genres (particularly blues) that Davina manages to ease together and combine into one. Collaborating with musician and engineer Tim Sanders, Davina Liz has given the world a song that encompasses a little bit of everything.
The piece begins with a sassy blues rock beat that feels comfortable from the start. This song doesn’t mess around. It’s got attitude and charisma and charm with elements of rock, blues, and a shade of gospel. Davina’s voice is pleasant and smooth, the perfect companion to her lyrics. “Gimme The Real Thing” is exceptionally well-written and the lyrics are brimming with defiance at hypocrisy, insincerity and mind games. Providing food for thought, Davina’s lyrics epitomize the frustration of an honest person in a world full of hypocrites. The song’s title is perfect, for what Davina is elegantly crooning is what we all would like to say: “Gimme The Real Thing.”
Her vocal delivery is precise and she hits each note with gusto. Her voice is strong and lends depth to her words. It is at times husky, at times seductive, and always confident. The musicianship that accompanies Davina is likewise exceptional, particularly the guitar work. The sound quality is excellent and each note is heard crisply. The piece is also the perfect length, as it gives listeners enough to make them want more, but not so much that they tire of the song. This piece is very well-composed in every aspect.
Davina Liz’s single “Gimme The Real Thing” is an extraordinary piece of music and it will attract the attention of listeners near and far. It is clear that Davina is a focused and talented lyricist with the vocal ability to breathe life into her words. The diversity of Davina’s career is evidenced in this piece and her musical prowess is stunning. “Gimme The Real Thing” is exactly what music lovers want: the real thing.
