    Mai Jõgi on Saaremaalt pärit noor bassimängija, keda peetakse tõusvaks täheks basskitarri maailmas ja kes on tähelepanu äratanud oma mitmekülgsuse, musikaalsuse ja poweriga nii jazz-, pop- kui ka rockžanris (Kerli Kõivu, Marju Marynel Kuudi, Tiit Pauluse, Ain Agani, Tuuli Tauli jt bändides). 2010. aasta kevadel lõpetas ta Georg Otsa nimelise Tallinna Muusikakooli basskitarri eriala, õpetajaks Raul Vaigla ning hetkel õpib Mai ühes Skandinaavia hinnatuimas jazzmuusikakõrgkoolis Skurups Folkhögskolas Rootsis ning sügisest 2011 alustab ta õpinguid Stockholmi Kuninglikus Muusikaakadeemias. Värskeim projekt on ansambel MaiGroup, mille Mai kutsus ellu just Skurupis ja mis mängib valdavalt tema enda heliloomingut. 2008. aasta Tartu jazzil omistati talle Üllataja preemia ning 2010. aasta Uno Naissoo nimelisel loomingu- ja interpretatsiooni konkursil pälvis ta parima instrumentalisti auhinna.

About MAI

Estonian female bassplayer MAI is said to be a rising star of the bass guitar world. She has attracted the attention with her versatility, musicality and power in different music genres: jazz, pop and rock bands (KERLI, Marju Marynel E. Coote, Tuuli Taul, Tiit Paulus, Ain Agan etc).

Mai was born in Kuressaare, on an island Saaremaa, Estonia. She played the violin for 8 years and first touched the bass at the age of 16. It was a moment of recognition. Estonian "Jazz King" Tiit Paulus became her new teacher in 2004 and they played together in a band 2+2=5 (Erko Niit, Maria Väli, Mai Jõgi Laas Pärtel & Tiit Paulus). Mai started playing with the great masters in an early age since Tiit often invited his friends to play with 2+2=5 f.e. Ain Agan, Lembit Saarsalu, Jaak Sooäär etc. Mai continued her studies in Georg Ots Tallinn Music School where Raul Vaigla became her teacher. He had been Mai's favorite musician for years (he still is!) so these years with Mr. Vaigla were extremely inspiring. She graduated in spring 2010 and now Mai studies at one of the best jazz schools in Scandinavia - Skurups Folkhögskola. In August 2011 she will continue her jazz music studies in Royal Music College in Stockholm (Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm). In April 2010 she won the best instrumentalist prize on Uno Naissoo Compostions Contest and in January 2011 she won the Musician of the Year prize from Baltic Briefing website.

The newest project is MaiGroup that she called together in Skurup with whom to play her own compositions - a synthesis of different music styles.
