Bio
"Stryfe is a progressive metal band formed in Yerevan, Armenia in 2003. The music of Stryfe is noted for the overall expressivity of the sound accompanied by guitar riffs. It includes roots of Armenian national, classical music and different kinds of metal influences filled in with melodious and clean vocal parts. The name "Stryfe" came from the word "strife" which means struggle, mainly struggle against human evil, hatred, treachery, which is reflected in the lyrics of the band. It expresses the anxiety of the inner world of the human being, desperately searching for the harmony and purity of feelings and emotions. The strong psychological essence of the lyrics is combined with the emotional music bridges and heavy instrumental parts. Since 2003 the band has experienced some line-up changes, whereas Karen Khurshudyan, the leader, lead guitarist and the songwriter remained the permanent member of the band. However the latest and the most durable line-up of the band consisted of Key – guitars, Hov – guitars, Goox – bass, Yeva - vocals and Kore – drums. Despite slow development of heavy music movement in Armenia, Stryfe became one of the most notable Armenian metal bands in Caucasus. Having performed in different Armenian cities, Stryfe gained popularity among the fans of heavy music with their further influence on formation of subsequent Armenian metal bands. Alongside with frequent performance in the clubs and venues Stryfe took part in the festivals held each year in Yerevan within the framework of Armenian Rock Festival. In 2008 under the guidance of Stryfe members "Rock The Borders" Festival was organized with participation of different Armenian as well as foreign metal bands such as Sadist (Italy), Ambehr (Russia) and others. In 2009 Stryfe had solo concert with string quartet. The concert was noted with principally new arrangement and interpretation of Stryfe songs due to the combination of their music with the violin parts, which made it sound more impressive. The band was originally presented as female-fronted but due to its re-forming in the United States in June 2010 a male vocalist Oshin Manoukian and bass player Karo Torosyan joined the band. In 2011 guitarist Avo Nersesian joined the band due to the relocation of Erik Seyranyan to another country. -
