  • Bio

Hello all and sundry. I'm Mark. I've been playing bass for 15 years. I play electric bass, fretted, fretless and 8 string. I also play acoustic bass and double bass. I'm available for session work and can be contacted at mark.meilack@hotmail.co.uk. I pick things up very quickly and have a good ear for melody and counterpoint. I have a good grasp of harmony and theory but my site reading isn't very good. My styles of playing are rock, pop, jazz and prog. I think what stands me out from other players is that I'm not just technically able but also add colour so to say to the music I'm playing on. I fully understand the role of the bass player in terms of rhythm but also think the bass line can sonically add to the overall song... I played in Hijak Oscar for five years, touring the country many times overs and also recorded two albums. Therefore, I have plenty of live experience and also recording experience. Hijak also appeared on the Channel 4 televised show MobileAct Unsigned and made it through to the semifinals. I therefore have experience of being filmed and being interviewed. I have sessioned for other artists as well. .. In April 2010 I won a scholarship to study bass at the ICMP in London. .. Below is a clip of the improvisational piece, I sent to the ICMP to be considered for the scholarship. .. Mark .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
