  • Tony to perform at the Recording Academy's MusiCares Person of the Year event

    The Recording Academy has chosen Barbra Streisand as its MusiCares Person of the Year in conjunction with the 2011 Grammy Awards, and will salute her musical and philanthropic achievements Feb. 11 with an all-star fundraising dinner and concert featuring Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Barry Manilow, Diana Krall, Kristin Chenoweth and others.

    Along with such pop, jazz and Broadway veterans, the event also will bring in a new generation of singers with an appearance by cast members from Fox TV’s hit series “Glee,” including Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison and Darren Criss. Eight-time Grammy winner Streisand also will perform at the close of the program.

    Previous MusiCares honorees include Bennett, Wonder, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Brian Wilson, Bono, Bonnie Raitt, Luciano Pavarotti and Neil Young.  Proceeds from the annual event benefit various MusiCares programs for musicians in need.

  • Tony and Susan honored with ASCAP's Foundation Champion Award

    ASCAP fetes Tony Bennett

    Tony Bennett and his wife, Susan Benedetto, were honored with ASCAP's Foundation Champion Award for their efforts to strengthen the arts in public education on Wednesday night in New York.

    At the 15th annual ceremony, held at Lincoln Center, ASCAP Foundation president Paul Williams also honored a wide variety of scholarship and award recipients who have benefitted from the ASCAP Foundation.

    In 1999, Bennett and Benedetto founded the non-profit Exploring the Arts, which has grown from serving one New York public high school to serving seven public high schools in 2010. They also founded the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, in Astoria, Queens.
    The ASCAP Foundation was founded in 1975 with the intent of supporting American aspiring musicians and encouraging their development through music education and talent development programs.
