TEN PACES

We made another video....we can't wait to show you.

"
A door opens: A banquet awaits, heavy silverware upon white linen upon mahogany. Sticks of candles wedged in silver flicker, and dribble, and spit gold.

Wilmington Feb 2009

Here are your waiters. Perfectly in time, pouring bewitched wine that fills glasses suddenly, unexpectedly like a blush.

An amuse-bouche shivers in the bowl and whispers lyrics from the underworld. Your waiters bring roasted birds, fattened and succulent and oozing amber tears.

Your head waiter stands. You dine, your napkins dab at scarlet lips. You nibble with dainty forks, plucking tender grapes from stalks like they’re blossom from the leaves.

Teeth grow thicker, violent. You gnaw and you tear. The fat will drip from your lips and stain the table, and four girls reaching four fingers will swipe at the food, smeared with cream and strawberry jam.

Snatch a glance at the waiters. Four waistcoats standing smartly as chaos unfolds: they wait with passive smiles and voices. And as they clasp themselves together, gilded and woven by the beastly breakdown, a glance, nose-to-nose, ripples the wall of waiters.

All the while, the enchantment takes hold. Sips devolve into greedy gulps, and then a smash of a goblet and a spray of glass.

My darlings! Over you go, into the feast. Handfuls of pudding splatter the walls, and two of you curl fingers, sucked together with a vampire’s kiss. The wild forcing food into throats, and up to the ceiling, and scattering the silk drapes with pieces of pastry and bullets of fruit.

One princess, she glides in high heels across the table, kicking the china as she goes, hair is smeared, and gowns are grabbed at, ripped, wrestled with, torn. Portions of flesh are freed from corsets and ladders dragged down silk stockings.

Just as soon as it began, the abandon ends in one sheer fold. A snap of the fingers and the ladies trail out, half-naked and intoxicated. Your immaculate waiters clear your remains with the sweep of a hand and a scatter of drumbeat. And, as if nothing ever existed before, they bring ten more, ten more to the room for the enchanted feast.

“toodar create the most beautiful multicoloured pop music in Ten Paces that follows the absolute heart-pumping delight of Toy. I’m an unashamed fan…" “10/10”

-Tom Robinson BBC 6music

"toodar's gorgeous lo-fi electro pop first popped onto our radar via a quirky home-made YouTube video for Toy that Tom Robinson enthused about on his 6Music show. The accompanying music is just as delightful, of course. Their new EP has a cracking Jme.D remix of Toy which just embellishes toodar's keen, if wonderfully understated, ear for melody."

-Music Week

"Championed by BBC 6 Music, our final act toodar play intricate and delicate songs over driving rhythms blending gorgeous harmonies, unique guitar lines and spaced-out keyboards. Songs such as Toy and Ten Paces already sound radio-ready, so be ready to hear much more of them. "

-PRS For Music M Magazine

"Here are five very good reasons why this band are a one to watch:

* Tom Robinson says they are 'dense and beautiful'. No argument there
* toodar shot the dizzying video for Toy themselves by strapping a mobile phone to a Hornby train set centred around their drum kit - so simple, so genius
* New song Ten Paces is currently being remixed by 1extra DJ and dub-step star Stanza True Tiger
* Are they electronica? Are they indie? We don't know, but that doesn't really matter. They're just rather good
* Tracks like We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea make the perfect brooding soundtrack to life. Stick toodar in to your ears while you are out and about and you will surely agree..."

-Virgin Red Room

"toodar’s ‘Red’ EP is a multi-layered massage to the ear drums. They succeed where a lot of others fail with their soothing slow build up technique by not trying to force anything and other than Tom Grundy’s haunting vocals, the focus is very much evenly spread across an extremely wide range of instruments, which allows the listener the chance to appreciate all the lovely little touches that are present. This is a sign of some serious musicians, people! Does the EP hold up though? Yeah, it does; strong song-writing + sweeping melodies + clever use of lots of lovely instruments by talented folk = Good things."

-Shout4Music.com

"...the rather creative video for their track Toy, the entire thing is shot having stuck a camera to a Hornby toy train. We applaud this creative expression of word play into video form. “This is OLD NEWS!”, we hear the Bloggerati cry, “YOUR POWERS ARE WEAK, OLD MEN!”. “Yeah, whatever”, says we, for our subject of today’s illustrious TOTD is, in fact, the second single, Ten Paces, lifted from the band’s Red EP. An emotive piece of musical art, the track combines the vocal talents of frontman Tom Grundy, striking a similar chord to that of Elbow‘s Guy Garvey combined with the softer touches of Biffy Clyro‘s Simon Neil, with a rhythm section that would make you think this is Three Trapped Tigers taking a more contemporary direction. It’s an absolute pleasure to listen to, more to the point.
