Adele and Taylor Swift are the modern queens of break-up songs, or at least of love songs in general, but before them there was Kelly Clarkson. After 10 years in the industry and a plethora of massively successful songs, does she have what it to takes to keep up with these new icons? After a small dip in her career, she’s just as relevant as ever.

    Kelly Clarkson, Catch My BreathListen
After her number one hit with Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) earlier this year, Kelly failed to match the success with follow-up single Dark Side. With her latest track, Catch My Breath, from her soon to be released greatest hits album, Kelly has made something that is better than the aforementioned. Mid-tempo but with that classic Kelly tone people love, Catch My Breath has the strength of Stronger but with the restrained power of Because of You.

    Maroon 5, DaylightListen
Currently enjoying their eighth week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with One More Night, Maroon 5’s newest single, Daylight, could give the band their third hit from the album “Overexposed.”  Slower than One More Night, Daylight is a personable, loving track that is reminiscent of their earlier work (like She Will Be Loved) but still fresh. If you’re not looking for “one more night” with these guys, try and find the “daylight,” you won’t be disappointed.

    fun., Carry OnListen
Thanks to Maroon 5 and PSY, fun. hasn’t been able to reach numbers one or two with Some Nights, instead just sitting on the outskirts for the past two months. If Some Nights begins to fade, they will surely carry on with Carry On. Almost a continuation to We Are Young, Carry On may latch on to the masses for that oh-so-familiar sound that brought them to notoriety in the first place. Might as well hand the torch over for another top five hit.
