While there may be no place like home, there’s apparently no place like The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Museum for a famous pair of ruby slippers. Yes, these are the slippers that Judy Garland wore while clicking her heels three times in “The Wizard of Oz.” They have been donated to the Academy museum by a group of angel donors led by Leonardo DiCaprio. Find out who else was involved and see a picture of the magical footwear, below.
The press release surrounding this donation lists Leonardo DiCaprio as the driving force, but other donors involved include the likes of Steven Spielberg and Terry Semel. The pair is one of four pairs used in the film, and is the pair in the best condition. Another pair is currently on display in the Smithsonian. There was no word in the press release on how much the slippers cost, although it does list Profiles in History as the auction house that handled the transaction. The slippers were auctioned back in December, with an estimated value of $2-3 million. Not bad for a used pair of (famous) shoes.
