...... San Patricios OUT NOW! CD $8.00 .... .. .. .. .. .. .. ....www.ollinband.com.. .. .. ..OLLIN (Aztec for movement/earthquakes) blazed out of East LA to take on the mantle of the great LA rock and rollers, bringing the energy and vibrancy of Chicano music to a growing number of devotees, in clubs, colleges and concert halls, all over the States. Coinciding with the 1994 Northridge earthquake... ..Ollin began as more than a musical project; the essence of the band is punk, but the instrumentation and musical development of the band has its heart in the beautiful music of Mexico... ..Tex-Mex barn burners and stomping Jarocho tunes became show staples. As the band matured they began to look beyond the walls of their own culture for inspiration. Ollin soon discovered musical and social parallels in African, Irish, Klezmer, and nearly all world genres. They are on a life long crusade to encounter and learn from any given cultures music... ..This is evident in their fiery live shows as they masterfully weave world styles with rock and roll sensibilities... ..They have appeared on the college circuit with Ozomatli and have had dates with Lucinda Williams, Los Lobos, Meshel Ndegeocello, and most recently The Pogues - all at San Francisco’s fabled Fillmore Auditorium. OLLIN’s’ impression on The Pogues was so significant that Spider Stacey (Pogues co-songwriter and tin whistler) on the spot, called their booking agent and demanded that Ollin open for them in Los Angeles at The Wiltern Theatre in November 2006... ..OLLIN’s recordings capture the vibrancy of the LA beat with all its raw energy. Sweet melodies, captivating groves and explosive rhythms coming from the land of earthquakes are woven through their songs. Their most recent output “San Patricios” pays homage to the brave and valiant Irish soldiers of the 1847 Mexican American war. The record also features songs about one of their favorite subjects – the backdoor politics and seedy history of their hometown, LA... .. .. ..
